Sanjay Chopra and his actress wife Tisca Chopra were the cynosure of the seventh edition of An Authors Afternoon on 22 March, 2013, at The Taj Bengal Chambers, sponsored by Shree Cement and presented by Prabha Khaitan Foundation in association with Siyahi and t2.
A serving pilot for the past 18 years, Captain Sanjay Chopra came forth as a surprise author with his collection of short stories Talespin. The book is a collection of 14 short stories, a mixed bag of historical fiction, crime, mafia and Mughal damsels.
As a pilot with an international airline, Sanjay travelled to many new places and cultures. This gave him the opportunity to explore his interest in the history of various cultures. As a child, Sanjay spent a lot of time with his grandfather who was an amazing story teller and an avid reader. The qualities which Sanjay imbibed from his formative years in life what caught his fancy in particular were the gaps in history; the unknown little details; which then became the fodder for his fiction. He took his passion for writing seriously enough to train at the London School of Journalism.
Apart from Rob Stevens, a captain in British Airways, Sanjay Chopra may be the only other serving airline commander who is also an author. Sanjay Chopra shared also gave the audience a sneak peek of his next work which is about a girl called Firdaus from Kashmir in the backdrop of terrorism.
