Subroto Bagchi at An Author’s Afternoon of 30th March 2016 was the 29th Guest Author of this series. He was in conversation with young entrepreneur Gandharv Roy. Bagchi is best known for his best- selling business books. The event was presented by Shree Cement in association with Prabha Khaitan Foundation, Taj Bengal, Siyahi and t2.
Subroto Bagchi is the co-founder of IT company Mindtree, one of India’s top 250 most valued companies across sectors. He was invited by the Penguin to write a book on entrepreneurship in 2006 when he was founding Mindtree and this book became extremely popular. This paved the way for him to become a business author and some of his books are Go Kiss the World, The Professional, MBA at 16 and Zen Garden for Penguin.
A believer in quality he says the ‘quality’ of books is more important than the number of books written. The business author defines success as something that one leaves behind. It also is about ordinary people doing extraordinary things. “We don’t need an A-team to build an A-organisation you can do phenomenal things with ordinary people” Bagchi said. Immersed in his demanding 16-hour IT work he still manages to find time to write books he says is because if one is passionate about something one will always find time to do that. Besides, it is easier for him as his wife is also a writer and they are happy to make space for each other. His works have been translated in many languages in India and abroad.
