Anand Neelakantan invented a new genre in literature: the counter-telling of mythology. He debuted in early 2012 with the block-buster hit Asura – Tale of the Vanquished, which told the story of Ramayana from the point of view of Ravana and a common Asura called Bhadra. The novel was shortlisted for 2013 Crossword Popular Award and still remains on the best-seller charts. The novel has been translated into all major Indian languages and Indonesian Bahasa and has gone for multiple reprints in almost all the languages it got published. This was followed by Ajaya series, Ajaya Book I – Roll of the Dice and Ajaya Book II – Rise of Kali, which told the Mahabharata from Duryodhana’s perspective. The Manava Gita or counter-argument for Bhagawat Gita is a highlight of this work.
